5 Gluten Free Foods You Can Get Almost Anywhere in the World

I figured since being gluten free is one of the things in life I do best, I thought I would share a list of the top 5 Foods You Can Get Almost Anywhere in the World. 

I have Celiac Disease and I have a love for travel. These two things combined can be a bit daunting for some, especially if being gluten free is a new thing for you. Even as a seasoned Celiac chick, I still get a bit nervous in some situations, especially if I will be away from my house/ hotel/ crash pad all day long.

A LOT of people ask me “How do you constantly travel and not get glutened?!”The simple answer is that I am very careful. The last thing anyone wants while traveling or anywhere for that matter is to be glutened and stuck to the toilet all day, if you know what I mean. More on that topic later… back to the Top 5 Foods….


Fruit is a food that you can find almost anywhere in the world. Fruit is nutritious and delicious and believe it or not you can live off fruit alone for a very long time so I decided to list it first. If you are not in your home country, I would recommend sticking with fruits that have a thick skin and have not been pre sliced because water/ice from a new place can cause a stomach ache. Good fruit options with a thick skin include mangos, watermelon, coconuts, oranges, bananas, pomegranates, etc. Fruit is also easy to stick in a bag to take with you in case you will be away from your hotel/crash pad for awhile.

2. Vegetables

Vegetables can be eaten raw or cooked and should be part of your diet…yes, I said it! Eat your veggies! If you only wanted to eat fruits and veggies for the rest of your life you could and would be just fine.

3. Rice

Rice is naturally gluten free and is prevalent in most places. Rice can be made thousands of different ways so it is almost impossible to get sick of. I usually try to stick with steamed rice when I am in new places if I feel like eating grains. My diet mostly consists of fruits and vegetables and small amounts of fish/meat. I will occasionally eat gluten free grains when I travel.

4. Fish & Meat

If you are not a vegetarian, then meat can be a good gluten free option when traveling. I would recommend ordering meat without sauces. Grilled or steamed is usually the safest option. Sauces can be evil and filled with gluten, even if they don’t look like it.

5. Nuts & Seeds

There are so many different types of nuts and seeds and they are usually pretty easy to find. They are easy to pack in a bag and carry with you and they are full of vitamins, minerals and healthy fats. They also do not need to be cooked which is a bonus! I like to travel with dried nuts and seeds because they are filling and don’t take up much space in a carry on.
